In this so-called “romantic comedy,” Yamamoto—a spineless college student working nights at a convenience store—reunites with Hayashi Megumi, the arrogant “Queen” (read: Bitch) who once looked down on him in high school. After seeing bruises from her abusive boyfriend, this clueless fool offers her a place to stay, despite her past scorn and her audacious, second-hand baggage. Trapped in a more-than-friends-but-not-lovers arrangement, Yamamoto’s every move reeks of desperation, while Megumi takes full advantage of his spineless nature. It’s not heartwarming or funny—just the grim spectacle of a cuck too blind to his own humiliation and the brazen woman who’s found the perfect doormat.
